Is my phone locked?

Locked phones and eSIMs don’t mix!

So, what’s a locked phone, and how do you check if yours is one of those clingy types?

No stress - we’ve got you covered with the easiest ways to find out before you jet off on your next adventure.

So, what is a locked phone?

A locked phone is basically one that’s tied down to the mobile network you originally bought it from - usually because you scored it on a sweet deal or a promo. Cute, right? But it means it won’t play nice with other networks or eSIM’s unless it’s unlocked.

1. Just ask

Call your mobile network provider and say, “Hey, is my phone locked?” If it is, you can usually ask them to unlock it - especially if you're out of contract.

Only your Home mobile network provider can unlock your phone … so be nice when you call them!

2. iPhone detectives, here’s your move

Scroll to Carrier Lock or Service Provider Lock or Network Provide Lock

  • If it says SIM Locked, boo - it’s locked.
  • If it says No SIM Restrictions, Yay! - you’re free as a bird!

3. Android squad, let’s go sleuthing

Now look at the list of available networks:

  • If only your Home network shows up, it’s likely locked.
  • If you see a bunch of different networks, awesome - your phone’s unlocked and ready to roam!
