  • Ensure your passport is valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area.
  • The EU Entry/Exit System (EES) is now in operation. On your first entry into the Schengen Area, your passport details and biometric information (facial image and fingerprints) will be recorded at border control. Expect lengthy delays and factor in time delays for inter-connecting flights.
  • The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) has not yet commenced - due end 2026. Once introduced, travelling visa-free to Portugal will need to complete a simple online travel authorisation before departure. Check the official EU ETIAS website for the latest commencement date.
  • You may be asked to provide proof of onward travel accommodation and sufficient funds.
  • Comprehensive travel insurance is highly recommended.
